How do I find an internship?
-
Firstly, you should contact / visit the Career Service Center at SUNY Cortland and speak with them about internship requirements BEFORE beginning your search. Not only will they be able to help you find an internship, they will also give you all the paperwork you need to get started. Please know that internship paper MUST be submitted BEFORE you start your internship.
-
With that said, there are many ways to find an internship but here are the most basic:
-
Search & Apply
-
While this is not the most effective way, you can simply go online and search for internships in your field. However, be aware that you will likely have to apply for many positions with a high rate of rejections
-
Alternatively, there are also a number of ON-CAMPUS internships available (like with the Blackbird Film Festival) that you can apply to and work locally. Visit the Career Service Center at SUNY Cortland and ask them if they know of any available positions.

Approach Local Businesses
-
In my opinion, the best way to secure an internship is to approach local businesses in your hometown and ask if they would be willing to bring on an unpaid intern to help manage their social media (or whatever). Typically, they won't refuse the help and you can tailor the experience to what best suits your resume.
